Navigating Doughsense

This guide will help you understand how to navigate through Doughsense and find the features you need.

The Main Navigation

Doughsense is organised into five main sections, accessible from the bottom navigation bar (iPhone and Android apps) or top navigation bar (web):

1. Dashboard 📊

Your financial command center showing:

  • Current net worth
  • Monthly cash flow
  • Goal progress
  • Key metrics at a glance

2. Portfolio 💰

Manage what you own and owe:

  • Accounts: Savings, investments, pensions
  • Assets: Property, vehicles, valuables
  • Liabilities: Loans, credit cards, mortgages

3. Budget 📈

Track money flow:

  • Income: Salary, withdrawals, other sources
  • Expenses: Bills, savings, debt payments

4. Plans 🎯

Set and track financial goals:

  • Create goals with specific conditions
  • Track progress automatically
  • Get suggestions for optimization

5. Profile ⚙️

Personalise your experience:

  • Currency preferences
  • Growth rate assumptions
  • Personal information
  • App settings

Key Features in Each Section

Dashboard Features

  • Date Selector: View your finances at any future date
  • Metric Cards: Tap for detailed breakdowns
  • Quick Actions: Fast access to common tasks

Dashboard Indicator Badges

Each metric card displays a coloured badge in the top-right corner that provides instant visual feedback about your financial health:

  • 🟢 Green Badge: You're in the healthy range for this metric
  • 🟡 Amber Badge: Caution - approaching limits or needing attention
  • 🔴 Red Badge: Action needed - this metric needs immediate attention
  • Grey Badge: No specific status (neutral metrics)

These badges update automatically as your financial situation changes or when you view different dates, giving you immediate insight without needing to click into each metric.

Portfolio Features

  • Add Items Dropdown: Create new accounts, assets, or liabilities from the header dropdown
  • List View: See all items with current values
  • Item Details: Tap any item to edit or view history

Budget Features

  • Income/Expense Toggle: Switch between viewing types
  • Add Items Dropdown: Create new income or expenses from the header dropdown
  • Linked Items: See connections to accounts/debts

Plans Features

  • Plan List: All your goals in one place
  • Progress Indicators: Visual progress bars
  • Plan Details: Tap to see conditions and timeline

Profile Features

  • Settings Sections: Organised by category
  • Quick Edits: Tap any field to modify
  • Save Automatically: Changes save instantly

Quick Settings

Using the Settings Dropdown

The settings dropdown (⚙️ icon in the top navigation) provides quick access to viewing options:

  • Today's Money: Toggle between actual money and today's purchasing power
  • More options coming soon: Additional viewing preferences will be added here

To use it:

  1. Click the ⚙️ icon in the top navigation bar
  2. Toggle options on or off as desired
  3. The dropdown stays open so you can explore different settings
  4. Your view updates instantly with each change

Common Tasks

Checking Your Progress

  1. Start at the Dashboard
  2. Look at metric cards for quick insights
  3. Use the date selector to see future projections

Adding a New Account

  1. Go to Portfolio
  2. Use the Add Items dropdown in the header
  3. Choose Account
  4. Fill in details and save

Creating a Budget Item

  1. Go to Budget
  2. Use the Add Items dropdown in the header
  3. Choose Income or Expense
  4. Set amount, frequency, and target

Setting a Goal

  1. Go to Plans
  2. Use the Add Items dropdown in the header
  3. Define your goal conditions
  4. Link related budget items

Updating Balances

  1. Go to Portfolio
  2. Tap the account/asset/liability
  3. Update the balance
  4. The date automatically updates to today
